Mid-week updates

Progress Reports
Progress reports came home today.  Remember, this is only midway through the quarter so there is still time for improvement.  Please make sure to sign the bottom and return.  If you have questions, comments, concerns, don't hesitate to call, email or make an appointment.

Sock Drive
My class is doing a sock drive for the month of November.  The number 1 most requested item in homeless shelters is socks.  This is because they cannot take used socks.  If you are interested in donating, the socks need to be new and can be in any size.  All proceeds will go to the Boise Rescue Mission.

Zoo Project
We just started the Zoo Project this week.  This project is where each student designs an imaginary zoo, calculates the area and perimeter for each cage and then takes their 2-D blueprints and then builds a 3-D model.  95% of the project will be done in class.  The building of the 3D model is the only thing that will be needed to be done at home.  I will be posting pictures, samples and directions on my blog this weekend.  Part of the project is to use materials you already have.  This project shouldn't cost more than $5.00 and really can be done for free if you are a resourceful recycler.

For the week of November 28th - December 2nd

Hello all!  Welcome back from Thanksgiving break!  I hope everyone had a wonderful and restful break.  Here is what to expect for this week:

Zoo Project
If you haven't heard about the Zoo project yet, let me fill you in.  This project combines engineering, math, science, design, making, reading and building from blueprints into a small model zoo.  95% of the project is done in class.  The only part done at home, is the building of the zoo.  I will be sending home and posting directions later this week.  Please know, I want the students to be resourceful for this project and use what you already have.  In the past, projects have been built with Lego's, virtually via Minecraft, with construction paper, with recycled water bottles, with rice crispy treats and cheap candy etc.  No one should go spend more than $5.00 for the construction of this zoo.  The students should build this, with minimal help from parents.  We will be showing our zoos right before Christmas break on Friday, December 16th from 8:30am - 10:50am.

Canned Food Drive Winners
Thanks to your generosity and giving spirit, my class brought in the most canned items for our division, in the schools food drive.  I appreciate the support you all have shown in giving back to our community.

For the week of November 14th - 18th

It is the last week of school before Thanksgiving break.  Here are a few dates and reminders:

It is the last week of the canned food drive.  It ends on Thursday of this week.   Remember all canned donations go right back to local families in need.  I still need quite a few items for our class Thanksgiving feast. If you signed up to donate food for the Thanksgiving party, please remember to bring your food Thursday night so I can prepare it for the next day.

Due to it being a busy week, there will be no spelling test.

Monday, November 14th
We will be taking our practice decimal test today.  All the skills that are on the practice test will appear on the regular test on Wednesday.

Tuesday, November 15th
As a class, we will grade our practice tests to determine small study groups to help refine skills still needing work. Graded practice tests will be coming home Tuesday night.  Anything highlighted in yellow, needs to be practiced that night.
Pizza money is due.
