For the week of October 27th - 31st

Reminders for the week:

1.  Because we have several large projects due this week, I decided against doing a spelling test in hopes my students will focus more on completing their work.

2.  Khan Academy Playlists are due this week.  We have been working on them in class since the second week of school.  Students must do at least 10 problems in each section and get a minimum of 8 correct.  If they don't, they must continue working until 10 problems are correct.  They do not need to be 10 in a row, Just 10 total.  The student writes down the date they completed the skill.
*PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL TUESDAY NIGHT TO TRY TO FINISH THIS!*

3. October reading calendars are also coming due.  They may be turned in as soon as minutes are met.  Please remember this is a huge part of the reading grade.

4.  Alice Through the Looking Glass  Chapter Maps are due Friday.

5.  We will be having an Alice Through the Looking Glass Party on Friday.  Students are allowed to dress up as characters from the book and bring treats to share with the class.  We will be attending a play and puppet show version of Alice in Wonderland in the morning and watching the Disney cartoon version of Alice in Wonderland in the afternoon.

6.  Wednesday, October 29th marks the end of the first quarter.  All make up work and test re-dos must be completed before then.  Report cards will be given at parent teacher conferences on November 14th.  Be looking for blog info on how to schedule an appointment for that day.

For the week of October 20th - 24th

Another busy week in 5th grade . .. .

Monday - Skate Night at the Nampa Roller Drome from 6-8pm.  The cost is $5.00 if you have your own skates and $7.00 if you need to rent them.

Tuesday - The Discovery STEM bus will be here for us to explore and do science experiments.

Thursday - History Test and Hero Letter Due

Friday - Spelling Test

Happy Fall Break - For the week of October 13th-17th

PS.  Mrs. Oldenkamp has banned Pokeman cards from coming to school.  They are becoming an issue in class and out at recess.  If you bring them to school, they will only be given back to a parent.

For the week of October 6th - 10th

Hello all!  Hope you got to enjoy the nice weather and the long weekend.  Progress reports went home on Thursday. Please sign and return the bottom portion showing you read the report.  If you didn't see one, might I suggest checking the backpack or Purple Home-School folder.  If you have questions/concerns please don't hesitate to contact me.  I would love to visit with you on how to help your child succeed in 5th grade and how to help you, help your child.  We have 4 weeks left until the end of the first quarter so there is still time to boost grades.

Remember, if you haven't turned in your September reading calendar, you can still receive full credit if you turn it in on Monday!

Book Orders will be sent home on Monday.  They are due on Friday of this week.  If you can, please order on-line.  Just click the Scholastic link on the right hand side of the blog.

In Math, we started working on PEMDAS (Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally) or in math terms Parenthesis, Exponents, Multiplication, Division, Addition and Subtraction.  I included a link that takes you to a step by step guide that explains how to solve these problems.

We also published our first class newspaper this week.  If a copy didn't make it home click this link to read.  Some of the margins are off when I copied our paper from its original format to Google Drive but the heart of what we accomplished is intact.
