For the week of February 2nd - 6th

This is a jam-packed week of crazy goodness :) Here is a check list to help keep everyone organized.
1.  Report Cards
Report cards came home on Friday.  Please sign the bottom portion and turn back in.  Students receive class cash for turning them back in.  Email confirmation works too.

2.  Parent-Teacher Conferences
I have a few unique circumstances that may interfere with the school wide conference date on February 13th.  I was assigned jury duty for February and have to call in each day to see if I need to report to the courtroom. On a personal note, both my in-laws were diagnosed with terminal cancer within weeks of each other.  My husband and I are the closest relatives they have and we are driving back and forth to Montana on the weekends to help make arrangements.  That long Presidents Day weekend I am needed back home to help out.  I appreciate your understanding in this matter.  I will be scheduling after school appointments everyday for the next week and a half.  If none of these times work out, please email me.  I can do Saturday and Sunday appointments too. Please click the link below to sign up for a time if you want a conference.  Phone conferences are available for those who cannot make it.

For the week of January 26th - 30th

Book Writing, History Projects, Enrichments, Report cards and Parent Teacher Conferences Oh my!

1.  Last Enrichment Club of the Year
Enrichment forms went home on Friday.  It is a first come, first serve basis.  Those who turn in their slips on Monday are most likely to get their first pick.  Enrichment clubs will be on Fridays from 2-3pm on Jan. 30th, Feb. 6th, Feb 20th, Feb 27th and March 6th.

2. Books
Every year, each student gets an opportunity to write a book and have it published for free.  This year is no different.  Students in my class are allowed to write from their imagination.  Books can be anything from Dictionaries of their favorite things, to story books, fan fiction, autobiographies, even cookbooks are allowed.  We will do most of the writing in class, along with illustrations.  The only thing I ask of parents is to edit the writing.  I will have your student email you with updates every few weeks.  It is up to you to help your student look for misspelled words, grammar errors,  etc.  Our due date is March 13th.  We have to have books ready to ship for publishing on that date so we can have them back before school gets out.

3. State Fair History Project
The State Fair History Project is our large 5th grade project.  I break it down into manageable sections with due dates spaced out.  I do give the students time to work on this in class but any unfinished or misplaced work must be done at home.  I will post all the due dates and rubrics under the History section of my blog.  Here is just a quick overview of the project.
1.  Research Worksheet - 50 pts   due February 12th
2.  Research Paper - 50 pts  due February 27th
3.  iMovie - 50 pts due March 13th  (done in Computer Lab)
4.  State Display Board - 50 pts due March 19th  (done at home)
5.  State Fair Presentation - 50 pts  due March 19th (open house at school)

4. Report Cards
Report cards should be going home this Friday, January 30th.  Please check your students backpack.  If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to call, email or just drop by.

5.  Parent Teacher Conferences
The scheduled date for these conferences is Friday, February 13th.  Unfortunately, I have also been drawn for Jury duty the entire month of February and I could be called in at any time.  I am going to try to schedule anybody who wants to visit after school, as soon as report cards come out just in case I get called in on that Friday.

For the week of January 20th - 23rd

Welcome back!  This week is a little goofy so here is the run down:

1.  I am still missing permission slips and $2 from several children.  If your student lost or misplaced their original permission slip, the will be getting another one today.  It needs to be in asap.
The field trip is this Thursday, January 22nd.  Buses will load at 8:45. We will be listening to the 9:40 performance at the Swayne Auditorium at NNU. You are welcome to follow the buses over if you are chaperoning. No younger siblings are allowed.
Students are welcome to dress up fancy for this concert at no charge.

2. We have an open note history quiz on Thursday.

3.  The students also earned a party on Thursday.  Our class points party will take place Thursday afternoon from 1:30-3:00.  Students are welcome to bring electronic devices and treats to share.
