SUMMER has arrived!

Betcha thought you heard the last from me . . . .

This is just a quick reminder that the blog and all its links will be running all summer long.  Your student's school accounts will also be active.  What does this mean?   It means they have access to all their learning programs that we used during the school year.   To keep all they have learned fresh in their brains, you should remind them to do the following:

1.  Read at least 3 times a week for 30 minutes.

2.  Hop on a math program, like IXL or Khan Academy and practice multiplication, division, anything decimals/fractions and geometry for 20 minutes, 2 to 3 times a week.

Help remind your student to flex their "brain muscles"!

If you are having problems logging in from home, don't hesitate to shoot me an email.  I would be more than happy to help brainstorm tech solutions!

The Year in Review

It has been an amazing year. Thank you for sharing your students with me.  As always, I am sad to see them go but am proud for all they have learned.  I complied several series of photos journaling a lot of the cool projects, trips and presentations, as well as the student's accomplishments.  Enjoy!

Last week of school!!!!

I am going to try to not get weepy, but I have really enjoyed this year.  This class has been amazing and I am beyond sad to see them go.  I found this poem on Pinterest that I want to share with you. Even thought these aren't my words, they express the sentiment I want to convey.

Great Expectations

It is time to say, "Good-bye".
Our year has come to an end
I have made more cherished memories
And many more new friends.

I have watched you all learn and grow,
And change from day to day.
I hope that all the things we've learned
Have helped in some small way.

So it's with happy memories,
I send you out my class door.
With great hope and expectations,
for what next year (and many years to come) holds in store.

Hugs!

Mrs. E

Mission to Mars

For our last few science lessons the students have been given challenges to "survive" on Mars, much like the upcoming Mars 1 space mission.  One of our tasks was to create a poster showing only 6 items needed to survive an 8 hour surface walk.  Another task was to use the knowledge we have of our own water cycle to make fresh drinking water out of Mars' possibly salty underground water.  If you're interested in learning more about Mars, check out the Mission to Mars links on the left hand side of the blog.

How to survive an 8 hour surface walk using only 6 items!

Studying the water cycle

Designing mini atomospheres

Testing theories

Checking designs

We've come to a group consensus!

It works!!!!!
